Vic's Silver Replica was won at the Isle of Man TT Races Vic visited the Isle of Man TT Races once in 1989, the last year of the F1 sidecars. Although it was his first and only visit to the island, he and passenger Pete Hill managed to set the lap record for the fastest ever sidecar newcomer at 102.98 mph in the sidecar A race and achieved an average race speed of 100.79 mph , which gave him a 7th place finish and was only a little over 2 minutes behind race winners Manxman Dave Molyneux and passenger Colin Hardman. This was an even bigger achievement because the TT races are not started all together as on a short circuit but in pairs at 30 second intervals. Vic started 38th on the grid!!
( At that time the lap record was still held by the late Jock Taylor and his passenger Benga Johansson at 108.29 mph, set in 1981 after winning the Sidecar World Championship in 1980. He was sadly killed in the Finnish Grand Prix in 1982 ). |
